Event Description

Presented by: Justin Temple, Recreation Therapist, B.A., DIP

We know that we all need recreation and leisure pursuits built into our daily routines. We know the benefits of an active lifestyle as well as the enjoyment that accompanies our leisure pursuits. But how can this be offered and delivered to children and youth residing in a mental health residential treatment centre, with a trauma-informed approach? What should be a very straight forward and primary program, quickly becomes extremely intricate when dealing with children and youth who are experiencing complex mental health issues. This webinar will focus on how the CPRI recreation therapy program has evolved over a decade in order to meet the ever changing needs of children and youth who attend the CPRI residential program. It will focus on the struggles and successes of what worked and what didn’t. In addition, it will incorporate a youth engagement focus on how to provide programming that is relevant, skill based and beneficial to the children and youth who attend CPRI’s residential program.
