Event Description

Individuals in helping professions are exposed to high levels of workplace stress and events which may lead to burnout, vicarious trauma and PTSD. Frequently, direct service staff and care providers who encounter violence, aggression and stories of trauma are impacted and may face the challenging decision of whether to leave their profession to preserve their health. Service providers often locate their exhaustion and dysregulation within themselves — “Do I feel this way because of lack of training, lack of skills? Maybe I’m in the wrong line of work.”

With a clear understanding of factors that can lead to burnout and vicarious trauma, participants will identify how self-care works for them and how best deploy their own mechanisms of care as needed. Participants will also explore emerging information and strategies with the potential to transform past, negative experiences into opportunities for growth in both personal and professional life.
